"VC41 Squadron Sat Nite Party at Officers Club, Hollister, CA" by Robert Woock & Renee Woock Hawk
Project type
Watercolor
Date
2016
Here is an example of the artwork of my father Robert Woock. He was a fine arts major at University of Washington, and President of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at the start of WWII. He dropped out of college to join the Navy, became a pilot and flew missions during the war. He flew US Navy bomber planes from off of the top of small aircraft carriers in the South China Sea.
After WWII, his life consisted of marrying Barbara Crane, raising a great family and managing a career in upper management in the Insurance field. He was Vice President of Occidental Life of North Carolina, responsible for 11 western states.
Near the end of WWII, while still in the Navy, he drew this sketch of a wild Navy party my mother organized in 1944 for the VC41 Squadron at the Officers Club on the Navy base at Hollister, CA. The drawing was "lost" in storage for decades. Then in 2016, I enlarged his sketch and painted this watercolor, signing both of our names to it.
